The choice is really between leaving my cushy work-from-home-no-overtime $75K p/a Senior Consultant Programmer job to go for a less cushy $35-40K work-in-office-stay-back-late Entry Level Programmer position that I could get. The only saving factor for this would be that I would get to see my game on the shelf at the end of it all.
I have, however, decided that game programming is something that I enjoy. It gives me a break from the regular "website" this and "business process" that. I will continue to make games on a casual basis, and perhaps one day I will sell some copies for a bit of pocket money.
That having been said, I have decided that my next project (when I eventually finish HexWars), will be a game that I was going to make for our baby when it was born. I think it will be called "Scarlett's Treasure", and will be along the lines of a children's version Space Quest type game. Ie.. get key from here.. open door there.. get put to sleep by spores.. wake up in strange place.. etc.
I also want to do all the graphics for this game myself, so they will look a little 2-year-old-ish. Here's one of the first pics of our heroin:
