Programs could be made that are elaborate versions of those "choose-your-own-adventure" books. Now most people think of these CYOA books in a dismissive way, but if enough time was put into producing a program like this, surely one could be made that would be well-written enough to take "seriously" (in a poncy literary way). (Ie. In terms of character design, script, themes, imagery, relevance etc). (Probably wouldn''t appeal to me though).

I don''t see how they are any different than Adventure games. A prebuilt branching storyline. The player acquires and then uses objects. They may engage in combat or interaction.

The only differences are that computer games make it easier ot return to a previous screen location (or converstion). Though if the story doesn''t advance, there''s not really any difference. And some books had this feature in places.

The books are text rather than graphical, but there are still IF games being made.

The books had combat, which is present in some adventure games (King''s Quest, for example).

So, umm, what exactly are you looking for?

it would be (interactive) combat and puzzle free, kind of an interactive novel (rather than an interactive combat fantasy).

I think it would be rubbish and most people wouldn''t want to play it.
