Breaking in as a writer

I am a writer and want to know is there a way to break into the gaming industry solely as a writer?
Or, do I have to bring something else to the table?
I have just completed my first book and if it sells well, will that enhance my chances to break into the industry solely as a writer or do I need to have a BA or some other game related experience?
