Image of the day: Does it actually work?

How does IOTD work, and does it still work?

I ask this because i'm still seeing a lot of the same images on it that i saw on it almost a year ago when i returned to this site after my long hiatus.

From reading the details of how it's supposed to work, its supposed to scrape twitter for the hashtag #screenshotsaturday, however it doesn't seem to pick the majority of screenshots up.

Does it only pick up those that can be associated with a user account here (e.g. those who put their twitter handle in their profile)? And if so does it detect all of these that it can match?

When i first started here i used to get reputation points for "playing" the game. This stopped soon after i got crossbones+. Is this by design? (not that any sizeable reputation could be gained by this anyhow, just curious...)

Curious to see what those who maintain it have to say on it!

That should list all the newest screenshot saturday shots. It only pulls static images though and not animated ones. That page is more of a latest #screenshotsaturday dump though. The all time top is still not working correctly but the weekly and monthly are.

Rankings are based off of votes in the "game".. but also the game does have a lifetime limit for the number of points you can gain playing it. It was set pretty high but some people managed to actually hit the cap (including me).

Some people have played that 'game' WAY too much.
