Chat Room Based Chats

This would be very much like forums but the user could start a new room with a specific topic in mind. This way topics are not jumbled up in the same chat. People get sauce'd when you change the subject or try to "hijack" their topic. Having multiple chat threads would solve this problem. Also chats would be recordable and I even think in the future the forums should be replaced with chats but I'm not trying to push anything - just suggestin'.

That's very much not the direction I'd want to see the forums going.

Forums are at least in part more valuable because their slower pace encourages a much higher signal-to-noise ratio. Unlike a chat, folks think about what they post for at least a little bit. And the fact that anything you post here will show up on google searches attached to your name for all eternity... helps folks think twice about incendiary/trolling behaviour.

Folks are always free to hop in their own Discord chats. The platform is specifically designed around lowering the boundaries to firing up a new chat environment.

That's a good point.

I would like to start me own chat. codeloader.net is the name but I need to find people to join.

In case you're not aware of it, there is an existing Discord chat that already has quite a few people. Invite information is here.

As mentioned, it has much more "noise" and random chatter, but people mostly stay on topic when someone wants to talk about something specific.
